And They Act It
Hey, you! Fool!
Don’t you know us cats
Are toooo cool?
Yes we can!
If you’re so sure, then
You go first.

Long Time Passing
Here I rest
End of days, my grave –
Men gone, too.

* The haiku I write are lines of 3-5-3 syllables instead of 5-7-5.
See Haiku article here for explanation, if needed:

These are excellent, Dennis. I’m not fond of cats, so I could pass up the first one, but the second and third are definitely keepers. That last one says so much in such few words. You’re very good at this haiku stuff!
Thanks. Since the first poked a bit of fun at cats, maybe it is more likeable for for the furr adverse for that reason.
I bet you can’t say the last part of this sentence really fast three times!
Second one is definitely my favorite–perfect picture for it too!
Thanks. As I’ve said about other haiku that I’ve posted in the past few months, I’ve started writing haiku based upon the picture I’ve found. So the picture better be perfect for the haiku or I’ve blown it.
I love this approach of working to find the inspiration in a serendipitous source–the equivalent of opening a book to any page, pointing a finger blindly, and choosing that word for the starting point. Always leads to adventure, eventually!
In searching for photos to illustrate something I’d already written, I kept seeing intriguing photos. I was writing poems of what I had seen. I started writing poems of what others had seen (and had taken photos of). I generally write close to 30 haiku a month. I decided in November to see if I could write 90 that month by starting with photos, and I did.
