After two gallbladder attacks, one resulting in a trip to the
emergency room, I had my gallbladder removed 10/5/11.
I wrote this poem a few days earlier.
The Divorce Is Final
When my gallbladder had the gall
To kick up trouble after all
The time we’d spent in harmony,
Like precise parts of symphony,
I privately considered blasts
Of dynamite for stones whose pasts
Made rocky roads of pain and woe
And tables where I travel – foe.
With second thought, and counsel wise,
What surgeon, doctor, did advise
Is route I take, the safest course –
Gallbladder, I do thee divorce.

Love it! And hope you’re feeling better.
Hey, can you help me? When you click “Like” for something you’ve read on my blog, how can I see that? I get an email notification that you’ve done so, but where on my blog would I see it? Or don’t I? Thanks from a non-techie.
I don’t know if yours are formatted this way or not, but at the bottom of my posts, there’s a place that says “5 comments” (for instance). When I click on that, all the comments come up for me to see and I can also see the “gravatars” (or whatever they’re called) left by those who have liked the post.
Hope the surgery means a speedy return to good health!! But the poem was equally cathartic. Made me laugh (yes, of course, in sympathy!).
I’m doing well. I was in the hospital by 6:30 that morning and home by 11:00. Still a bit sore, but things are mostly normal now. Thanks.
Well, good. Keep healing. All best.
Thanks for your techno-help. And thanks for your ideas on how my epilepsy and writing connect. That was pretty obvious, I guess. Maybe I’m over-thinking it.
Divorced mine about 12 months ago after years of misdiagnosis of stomach problems. Best thing I ever did and no alimony.
After my soreness goes away, I’ll probably think it’s the best thing I’ve done, too. 🙂
all the best for quick recovery
Thanks. I’ve got a tiny bit of soreness left, but I’m able to do most anything I want to do (except lifting).
Best wishes for you recovery. I can say from experience you won’t miss it. 🙂
