The slow parade, the idle wait,
…Then suddenly a roar
As if the lions as king of beasts
…Were all declaring war. 

No matter if the concrete looks
…As smooth as sheltered bay,
There’s rattle and there’s rumble as
…The tires roll down the way. 

A quietness then within the roar
…Like donuts with a hole.
And quickly doubled (quiet and smooth) –
…The fish leaped from the bowl!

The Window Seat by Dennis Lange

The Window Seat

I want the window seat in life
   In ev’ry plane I fly.
I want to watch the world below
   And all that’s passing by. 

I want the windows without shade
   In ev’ry room I rest
That I may see the world outside
   And ev’ry bit ingest. 

I want the windows open wide
   That I may smell the breeze,
That I may hear the cooing dove,
   My interest appease. 

But as I throw the windows wide,
   I find it is the case
My appetite is simply stirred –
    There’s more I must embrace. 

Each slice of life says, “Just one more!” –
    Like greatest tempting sweet.
I want the window seat in life
   That I might taste the treat.
