More than a chair to see the world,
Are eyes that really see
The panorama of the plains,
The grandeur in a tree,

The spiral in a sunny bloom,
The silver waterfall,
The beauty in a cloudy day,
And blue when cleared of all.

There’s wonder in the falling rain
And in the sunny day.
We simply have to have the eyes
To see it in its way.

I slept and dreamed that life was Beauty:
I woke and found that life was Duty:
Was then thy dream a shadowy lie?
Toil on, sad heart, courageously,
And thou shalt find thy dream to be
A noonday light and truth to thee.

The best thing
When back’s to beauty –
A switchback.

Look out upon the stars, my love,
And shame them with thine eyes,
On which, than on the lights above,
There hang more destinies.
Night’s beauty is the harmony
Of blending shades and light;
Then, lady, up, – look out, and be
A sister to the night!

Sleep not! thine image wakes for aye
Within my watching breast:
Sleep not! from her soft sleep should fly
Who robs all hearts of rest.
Nay, lady, from thy slumbers break,
And make this darkness gay
With looks, whose brightness well might make
Of darker nights a day.

Aesthetics is the reason why
Some protest line and pole.
They cannot see that beauty lies
Past Cindy Crawford’s mole.

The fragile flowers, in their beauty,
Are never seen as vain.
In breezes soft, they stand, their duty:
That we, might pleasure, gain.

The sweet young thing who is a cutie,
And stands long at a pane,
Stays pure. But shift might make her snooty:
The mirror makes one vain.

That guard that’s
Guarding the garden
Keeps me out!

Tea Leaves Leafing

One little
Teapot short and stout.
Tea? I doubt.

Beauty

Beauty bright;
Beauty distinct and
Even blurred.

If It’s Not Too Much Trouble

I want one –
Perfect one, far left,
Bottom row.

Barren Branch

Midst of life,
Among all the green,
A deadness.

Beauty That Flies

Men may fly,
And color their planes,
Ne’er matching.

In midst of ugliness and hate,
A place that’s bleak and bare,
It may be hard to stand alone
And be the beauty there.

When barren frame surrounds the bud,
And it’s the lonely breed,
Its graceful singularity’s
An even greater need.
