* The haiku I write are lines of 3-5-3 syllables instead of 5-7-5.

The first one and the last one are tied for my favorites. Creative writing, for sure, Dennis!
I’ve just finished up the National Poetry Month writing challenge. I have never taken part in that before, and it has worked me pretty hard since I tried to follow the prompts faithfully — except for today. Of course, the prompts were totally optional, but, since I was wanting to do something out of my comfort zone, I stuck with them pretty closely. I think there were seven of the 30 days that I didn’t have time — or inclination — to write a poem. But I managed one for all the other days, and, as a result, wrote in some forms that I’d never even heard of — let alone write in. It’s been much more fun than I thought it would be. There were over 2000 poets who took part, and sometimes it amazes me just how many people really do write poetry. Kind of glad the month is over though, so I can concentrate on other writing.
Well, I stand corrected, Bard. I went back and counted, and I guess I wrote only 18 poems this month, instead of the 23 I THOUGHT I wrote. Oh, well … I worked myself harder than I’ve worked for the sake of poetry in a long time, so I can still feel good. And if writing 18 poems feels like writing 23, then I guess I needed that poetic exercise.
Thanks on the first. Maybe you’ve got 5 poems somewhere that you just haven’t found yet. 🙂 Glad it went well for you. Guess I might try that some day. Right now, I’m working on a poem project that’s easy for me to write both a large number of poems and some with a large number of lines. That’s in addition to the ones I normally write and publish here. Maybe those others will wind up here someday, too, if a publisher won’t take them.
Well, there are undoubtedly 5 more running around inside me somewhere. They’re bound to come out sometime — maybe next year.
I definitely think you should at least give us a preview of those longer poems. Even if you post a few, by the time they come out in a book, we will be glad to read them again. At least, that’s the way I am. I like to read good poetry over and over. Of course, I even do that with novels.
Well… 🙂 I would but they’re a unit and to post one would give away what all the others are. I’m holding on to that “secret” till I get a publisher or rejected by bunches of them. 🙂 The way the poetry market is, they may not have any value to publishers at all. If not, they’ll all wind up here. It’s the idea of them all I don’t want to reveal yet. Sorry. 😦
